one of less than 200 produced circa 1859, with 3 3/4in. octagonal barrel, hinged under-barrel rammer, plain cylinder (traces of engraving), solid frame (traces of engraving) with off-set central hammer marked on the left 'J. ELLS PATENT' and on the right 'AUG 1 APRIL 28' and '1854, 1858', guarded double-action trigger and smooth walnut grips, external surfaces worn with evidence of refinishing
